AAAUGH! I didn’t mean to leave a one star review…NO! It’s a 3-1/2.
I loved the dual-performance aspect…one performer’s painting on a large canvas, as the other plays congas and recites and sings.
I found it the right thing for me to see, after a day of hopping from high-energy performance to performance…definitely lower-key, yet gives you a lot to take with you.
Love the Bembe!
This show is primarily spoken-word - I met one person who quietly left shortly before it started…he’d seen FOUR spoken-word performances that day and realized he really needed to experience something else.

Really, really enjoyed this piece, drumming and terrific spoken word, plus the chance to watch a visual artist at work! The Piece “monocle man” especially resonated with me. As the beatles put it “ah, look at all the lonely people”. Kudos to Leigh and Branko for putting themselves out there!

We saw this opening night. The works and sounds were incredible. We never saw a spoken word artist go off into different languages!
It was a little hard to see the painter, but really worth it.

Not a review, but just to say, thanks everyone — and don’t forget the pre-show frame drumming for those who want to come in 10 minutes before show time.

Beautifully structured “album” set of Leigh’s calls to hearts and minds, including two unusual and striking tagents. Branko is an extraordinary painter and flows with the tone and some tangents of his own. Excellent show. Leigh sees hope and even salvation where many less tired just stare.
