Ke Alaula

Halau Hula O Ka Hoku Akau (Hula School of the Star of the Northern Sky)

Hula is the vessel of memory, tradition, spirituality and legend for the people of Hawai’i, one of the world’s remotest places. Through the art forms of dance and song, hula recalls the origins of the people; tells the stories of the ancients; celebrates the gods and heroes; and affirms the sacredness of all nature and its relationship to humankind.

4 Reviews for Ke Alaula

  1. Enjoyed the show. The telling of the story was done very well and both the chanting and dancing were performed professionally, with grace and beauty.

My preference, though, is more in the visual, so I would have preferred more dancing than chanting.

All in all, I thought the performance was well done!

  3. After a brief stint with a black out, I thought the show went very well. The dancers performed beautifully. The stories that were narrated was a wonderful addition to performance as a whole. I would recommend to everyone.

  4. In Minnesota I expected to see hula with grass skirts and coconut shells. Instead I have seen a show of authentic hula evolving from ancient styles to modern styles. What a treat in Minnesota! The storytelling that precedes each piece is captivating and educational, and the costumes worn by the performers are striking. This is not the hula we see in the movies. “Ke Alaula” provides a beautiful sampling of a culture far from most of us, but in a way that brings it close to home.
